Paa - Music review

'பா' பட பாடல்களை கேட்டு கொண்டு இருக்கும் பொழுது , எனக்குள் பல கேள்விகள் எழுந்தன ? குறிப்பாக ஒரு இசையமைப்பாளரின் ரசிகனாக இருந்து கொண்டு , இசையை , எதிர்பார்ப்பு இல்லாமல் , ஏதேச்சையாக ஒரு அருவி தென்பட்டு அதை பார்த்து ரசிப்பதை பார்க்கும் விதமாக ரசிக்க முடியுமா? கொஞ்சம் கஷ்டம் தான். இப்படி இசையை பருகுவது, நமது இசை உடம்பிற்க்கு நல்லதா ? இதே பாடல்களை ஒரு இரண்டு வாரத்திற்க்கு பிறகு கேட்டால் எப்படி இருக்கும்?இன்னும் ரசித்து இருக்க முடியுமோ?

பல வித எதிர்ப்பார்ப்பு - இளைய ராஜா வட இந்திய ரசிகர்களை கவருவாரா ? அவருடய இசை, வெகு ஜன மக்களின் iPodல் ஒலிக்கும்மா ? கொஞ்சம் கவலையும் , எதிர்ப்பார்ப்புடன் தான் இந்த பட பாடள்கலை அனுகினேன். குறிப்பாக இந்த வருடத்தில் வந்த அவரின் பாடல்கள் கொஞ்சம் நம்பிக்கை தந்தது.குறிப்பாக வால்மீகி, பழசி ராஜா நன்றாக இருந்தன. மனதில் ஒட்டின.பல வருடங்களாக ராஜாவின் திறமை குறைந்துவிட்டதென்று சில பேர் கூறுகின்றனர்.அவருடய synth usage தான் ரொம்ப மோசமென்று சில பேரின் அபிபராயம்.அவருக்கு பெரிய படங்கள் கிடைக்க வில்லை - சேது, ஹேய் ராம் , விருமாண்டி பாருங்கள்- பழய ராஜவை பார்க்கலாமென்பது இன்னோரு வாதம்.

பா- முளையும் , மனதும் , கணித விதி படி வயதும் பதினைந்தை தாண்டாமல், உடம்பு மட்டும் அறுபதை தாண்டினால் என்ற சுவையான கரு. இதற்கு ராஜாவின் இசை படதிற்கு பக்க பலமாகவும் , அவரின் இசை ரசிகர்காளின் எதிர்ப்பார்ப்பிற்க்கு பலமாகவும் இருக்க வேண்டும். அதை ' மூடி மூடி' பாடல் பக்காவாக பூர்த்தி செய் கிறது. முதல் interlude ல் வரும் இசை , அவரின் இசை நரைக்க வில்லையென்பதை காட்டுகிறது. ஷில்பா ராவின் குரல் ந்ன்றாக இருக்கிறது.பாடல் முழவதும் ஒரு jazz feel இருக்கிறது. ஒரு பாடல் நவீனமாக இருக்க , jazz ஐ பயன் படுத்து கிறார்கள்.தவறு இல்லை .இதை வைத்து மட்டும் synth usage ந்ன்றாக இருக்கிரதென்று சொல்ல முடியாவிட்டாலும், முந்தய பாடல்களை விட பல படிகள் தாண்டி சுவையாக இருக்கிறது.


இதை அதிகாரமாக சொல்ல முடியாது - 'கும் சும்' போன்ற மெட்டுகளை ராஜாவால் தான் போட முடியும் ( கில்லி படதிற்க்கு பிறகு பல மொழிகள் பார்த்த ஒரு விஷயம் இந்த பாடல் தான் .). இந்த பாடலை அப்படியே பியானோவில் வாசித்து பாருங்கள் , அல்லது என்னை மாதிரி வெறும் கையில் மொழம் போட்டு விட்டு கற்பனை பண்ணி பாருங்கள். ஒரு பீதோவனும் , மோஸொர்டும் வருவார்கள். இந்த பாடலில் , குறிப்பாக , இரண்டாம் interlude ல் இலவசமாக jazz பியனோ கச்சேரிக்கு அழைத்து சொல்லுகின்றனர். குழந்தைகளுக்கு பாடுவதில் பேர் பெற்ற நமது பவதாரினி, சரணத்தை , மேல சொன்னதை நிருபிக்கும் வகை பாடியுள்ளார்.இந்த பாடல்களை இரடடை கிழவி போன்ற சொற்க்கள் நிறய வருகின்றன, நல்ல அலங்காரமாக அவை இருக்கின்றன.

கடந்த இருபது வருடமாக ஒரு ஆராய்ச்சி நடுக்கிறது. ஒவ்வோரு ராகமும் எந்த உணர்ச்சியை வெளிபடுத்தி கின்றதென்பதை.இதனை இளைய ராஜா ஓப்பு கொள்ள வில்லை . ஆவரை போறுத்த வரை , ஒருராகம் எப்படி வேண்டாலும் பயன் படுத்த முடியும்- அது அந்த இசையமை பாளரின் ஷிருஷ்டி யை பொறுத்து இருக்கிறது.உதாரணதிற்க்கு , எஜமான் படத்தில் வரும் ' ஒரு நாளும்' பாடல் ஒரு பக்தி பாடல் யென்பதை எவ்வளவு பேருக்கு தெரியும் . ஜானகியை எடுத்து , சுதா ரகு நாதானையும் , கொஞ்சம் chordsai மாற்றி கற்ப்பனை பண்ணி பாருங்கள். அதே தான் - புத்த்ம் புது காலை பாடலும் . ஒரு இரவில் ஒரு காதலன் தனக்கு முத்தம் கொடுத்து விட்டால் , மறு நாள் காலை அந்த பெண் மொட்டு எப்படி உணர்வாளோ அந்த உணர்வை தான் என்னால் கற்ப்பனை செய்ய்ய முடிகிறது. ஆனால் , இதில் - ' ஹல்கே செ ' வை கேட்டால் , முதலில் ஏமாற்றமும் , அதை தொடர்ந்து , ஆச்சர்யமும் தான் வருகிறது. பா படதில் , அந்த சிறுவன் இறந்து , இந்த பாடல போடாமல் இருந்தால் சரி - அப்படி போட்டு விட்டால் , அழுகை ஆறு தான் ஒடும் ( progeria வினால் அவதி படும் மனிதர்கள் இருபது வயது மேல் வாழ்வதில்லை . youtube ல் ஒரு விடியோ பார்த்து விட்டு அழுதேன்.ஊதாரணதிற்க்கு ஒரு தாய் progeria வந்த தன் சிறுவன் பற்றி சொல்கிறாள் ' he has started losing teeth now .. i Guess that shouldn't be a problem , as he doesn't like dஎன்டிஸ்ட்'-எப்படி பட்ட எண்ண ஒட்டங்கள் ஒட வேணுமென்பதை இன்னும் குழப்பிகிறது, வாழ்க்கயை விடையிலிருந்து வினாவிற்க்கு தள்ளுகிறது )

"தாய் எட்டு அடி பாய்ந்தால் .." பழ மொழி யருக்கு பொருந்துமோ, என் கார்த்திக் ராஜாவிற்க்கு பொருந்தாத்ன்று வலையில் பல பேர் பின்னியுள்ளனர்.எல்லாரும் ஒரு வகையில் இசை போட்டால் , இவர் இன்னொரு மாதிரி போடுவார். ஆனால் , எனக்கு இது தான் பிடித்திருந்தது. இப்பொழுது எடுத்து கொள்ளுங்கள். யுவன், பிரகாஷ், தரன் , இமான்,ப்ரெம்ஜி - இவர்களின் இசை வடிவில் என்ன வித்தியாசம் இருக்கிறது - ஒருவர் அதே இசை வடிவத்தில் நன்றாக போடுகின்றார், மற்றொருவர் சுமாரக . அவ்வளவு தான் . ஆனல் வடிவம் ஒரே மாதிரி தான் இருக்கிரது ( யுவன் இந்த கூட்டதில் முன்னோடி) . படம் பல இல்லாமல் இருக்கம் கார்திக் , 'ஹிச்கி ஹிச்கி' பாடலின் பின்னனி சேர்த்துள்ளாறென்று நினைகின்றேன். அவர் இசையில் தான் தனியாக சில இசை துளிகள் தனியாக தெரியும் , பாடலின் முதன்மை ராகதிலும் , இசை சேர்ப்பிலும் சரி - வெகு ஜன மக்களுக்கு பிடிக்கத மாதிரி இருக்கும் , கொஞ்சம் நிறய தடவை கேட்டால் , பிடித்து விடும் . குறிப்பாக முதல் interlude கேட்டு பாருங்கள்- அது முடியும் விதமும் , இரண்டாம் interlude , தனியாக இசை செருபு உள்ள இரண்டாம் சரனம் - இது கார்த்திகின் அடையாளம். அடித்து சொல்லுவேன். இந்த பாடலில் second interlude ல் திடீரென்று , பா தீம் மியுசிக் வருகிரது . ஒரு வேலை இந்த பாடல், காதல் கடந்து , காமம் புகுந்து , அந்த அன்பில் பிறக்கும் குழந்தையை குறிகின்றதோ ? மொத்ததில் பாடல் பிடித்திருந்து.

யாருக்கும் தெரியமால் ஒரு முத்து இருந்தது. பாலு மகேந்திரா அவர்களின் அது ஒரு கனா காலம் படத்தில் - "காடு வழி " பாடல். அதை ஒரு 14 வயது பயன் குரலில் அமுக்கி பாடியுல்ளார் அமிதாப். காட்ச்சியுடன் ஒட்டி உல்ள காரந்த்தினால் , நடுவில் வரும் செல்டிக் இசையை தவிர பெரிதாக கவர இல்லை. இருந்தாலும் , படதில் மிக ந்ன்றாக இருக்குமென்பது என்னுடய அனுமானம்.இந்த பாடலை re-mix பன்ணிய விதம் பிடிக்கவில்லை.

படம் வரட்டும் .பால்கி நன்றாக எடுத்து இருப்பரென்ர் நினை கின்றேன். ராஜாவின் பின்னனி சேர்ப்பை சத்தியம் திரை அரங்கில் பார்க்க வேண்டும்.

Identify which song ! (KR)

I was inspired by suresh's post where he had Interludes in his post and we had to identify the song.

He had doen it for raaja , im doing it for his first son. I didnt know how to use hipcast ( it was a paid service) , so have uploaded the interludes here .
Answers in few days ,if at all i get any answers :)

Karthik Raaja

Karthik Raaja !

I think Suresh , Baradwaj , Karthik(itwofs) have written wonderful articles on their journey with Illayaraaja /ARR . I believe we have all ( ~25-30) would have grown with Raaja or ARR songs and hence definetly lot to write about ARR or Illayraaja .

For some reasons , i like Karthik raaja . May be , the very first time i heard that son of Illayraaja is composing , and beinga naive , emotional music listener at 14 , i wished Karthik Raaja deliver music that would push ARR to the bottom of charts , as at that time even a sneeze of ARR was becoming a hit . ( it is another story that i secretly enjoyed ARR music but put up a brave front before my friends that im a die haard fan of Raaja and that i don't hear ARR much ) . But Manikkam , Enakku Oru Magan Pirappan , Alexandar didn't do much ,except adding 5-6 songs to my likeable songs .

Then came Ullasam - it just blew me up and i started having some kind of unique liking to Karthik Raaja . It was not rehman , not Illayraaja , but a unique sound which i liked very much. Ullasam songs were a big hit and i went mad with that album , almost mentioning the name of album to everybody . Next started by search on dhinaa thanthi , dhina karan on the new films that come up and the music director for those films . I started searching *Raaja* in the names and it used to excite me to find a karthik raaja in the crew.

Another album which excited me was GRAHAN . The minute i heard in those hindi channels , i was just sucked to it . So much so , that after 8 years when i was working in delhi , i searched for Grahan soundtracks only to see a whimsical smile from the cassete shop owners . Till now , it remains one of my favourite albums that just remain hard wired in my mind . Esp kehte ke jisko , chum chum , Ye sochu ta

By then, yuvan gave a Aravindan , a good debut and i also started liking him (again hoping that he will push rehman down) . I started tracking each and every album of Karthik and Yuvan . At one phase i liked yuvan abit more , when he delievered Povellam Kettu paar , dheena and it just mingled with my college life so much .Yuvan dished out his career in his own way , his own hip hop, pop sounds that slowly became a big hit with Karthik .

Two albums which made my loyalties move to KR are Naam Iruvaar Namakku iruvar and kadhal Kadhaala . I was the first guy to buy Kadhala Kadhala in the saidapet cassete shop ( was in anna univ ) and just rushed back to hostel to listen to the sound tracks.Esp , Naam iruvar songs defined my freedom i got in my hostel days and my life just got interwined with it .

Karthik raaja made a couple of unforgettable outings like vaanchinaathan , which made me hate his music for aa short time . Again , when dumm dumm dumm , Ullam Kollai Poguthey came up , it was just candy -time for me .
It is difficult to say why you like a composer . You would ideally like to say ' i like songs and doesnt matter who the composer' , but somewhere the bias comes in !

Post-2001 , KR adopted an change in his compositions . He tried his best to maintain his original style at a time where even if you follow 30% of rehman's style , you are sure to find your numbers in the top 10 . Of course this resulted in KR giving scores which find a mention only in musicindiaonline . But i liked almost all of the scores that came after 2001 - atleast couple of numbers in each movie. My favorite songs of KR .Just hope that he gets good movies to score !
